Fazendo Gênero 9 - Diásporas, diversidades, deslocamentos Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, 23 a 26 de agosto de 2010 O Fazendo Gênero 9, em 2010, terá seu foco central em temas que sugerem movimento tanto pela dispersão dos povos e culturas através de espaços geográficos quanto pelo desejo de realocações em espaços imaginados e pelo encontro com identidades plurais. The 21st International Association of Historians of Asia (IAHA) Conference will be held in Singapore in June 2010. Échapper à la marginalisation : Genre (gender) et discours narratif dans le roman féminin en Allemagne 1780-1914

Depuis quelques années, les études de narratologie manifestent un intérêt croissant pour le rôle que le facteur genre (gender) joue à différents niveaux du texte : il n’agit pas seulement au niveau de l’énoncé, c'est-à-dire du contenu ou des personnages, mais affecte d’une façon générale, tous les procédés de l’énonciation narrative (cf. Vera Nünning/ Ansgar Nünning, Erzähltextanalyse und Gender Studies, S. 13).Dans le domaine de la littérature anglophone, des études alliant l’analyse structurale des formes et des procédés du récit aux recherches sur le genre ont depuis longtemps porté leurs fruits. Ainsi, fort de ces apports, l’ouvrage magistral d’Ina Schabert, le manuel d’histoire de la littérature anglaise considérée sous le rapport des relations entre les sexes, conclut à peu près ceci : les femmes, en le transformant de leur plume, s’emparent d’un univers littéraire, façonné par les hommes et qui au départ leur réserve une position d’objet. Elles développent ainsi des modes d’énonciation qui leur sont propres. Empruntent les formes d’expressions pratiquées par les auteurs masculins, elles en détournent les règles et en transgressent les principes pour livrer leur histoire qui est autre (cf. Ina Schabert, Englische Literaturgeschichte. Eine neue Darstellung aus der Sicht der Geschlechterforschung, S. 13).Le but du colloque est de mettre à profit la richesse d’une telle approche croisée, narratologique et générique, dans des analyses portant sur les romans et récits d’écrivaines allemandes de la fin du XVIIIe siècle et du XIXe siècle. Durant cette période, et au fil des époques, les femmes auteurs participent dans une large mesure au succès et à l’évolution du genre romanesque, alors que le discours critique, tributaire de la vision dichotomique des sexes, dévalorise souvent leurs textes. Le rapport entre le lieu historique et culturel de la production littéraire des femmes et le choix de leurs procédés narratifs sera au centre du questionnement. On pourra par exemple explorer les stratégies dont les femmes auteurs se servent pour asseoir l’autorité de leur récit. Peuvent également faire l’objet d’études les questions de perspective et de voix narrative, la manière dont les femmes s’approprient certains types de roman et de récit ou mettent en scène des modes de représentation qui apparaissent comme spécifiquement féminins.Le colloque est organisé par le Centre d’études germaniques interculturelles de Lorraine (CEGIL) de l’université de Nancy 2 en coopération avec le Centrum für Postcolonial und Gender Studies (Cepog) de l’université de Trèves. Anarchism and Sexuality conference, Leeds, February 2010. Call for Papers: Anarchism and Sexuality in Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries The aim of this conference is to explore the connections between anarchist thought and activism in regions of extensive uptake of anarchist ideas, e.g. Spain, Portugal and Latin America, with respect to an important area of anarchist ideas and practice: sexuality. This is an under-studied area in anarchist historiography and other disciplines, such as history of labour movements, and this is particularly the case in some understudied countries within these regions (especially Portugal and Brazil). As areas with large anarchist movements, they offer telling examples of how anarchism engaged with this important question. Sexuality was taken up by anarchist movements as an example of their attempt to interconnect cultural, social and economic questions and forms of exploitation and as a response to broad issues of power differentials between men and women in society, the role of the Catholic Church and as an attempt to live and experience cultural change as part of the overall challenge anarchist movements have provided against capitalist social relations. This is relevant not just on a historical level but also has relevance to current debates on the relations between politics, sexuality, cultural change and identities. We invite papers on historical as well as present day intersections between anarchism and sexuality, and their implications for anarchist or libertarian practice. We would also encourage contributions on Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking Asia and Africa and their respective anarchist movements. In addition to providing a forum for the discussion of the legacy and the present of anarchist thought, the conference aims to allow for a critical engagement with current theories that derive from the realities of countries generally unknown in British critical thinking, political science and sociology, not to speak of gender and sexuality studies. 8-10 SEPTEMBER 2009
The Association will hold its 30th Anniversary Conference at Dublin City University from 8-10 September 2009. You are cordially invited to offer a paper, panel, or workshop presentation. This year we are proposing to seek Panels on specific themes in addition to individual presentations. The idea would be that one person would offer to convene a Panel and would be responsible for inviting the speakers and chairing the session. You are also invited to suggest any speakers who you think would be willing to offer a paper, bearing in mind, however, that ACIS does not normally offer either a fee or expenses for speakers. The choice of all panels and papers will be made by the Conference Programme Organiser in consultation with the Executive Committee.
Suggested thematic areas for papers and panels, which are not exclusive and may overlap, and which must relate primarily to Spain and Portugal, are:
Politics, Government, International relations, the EU, Nationalism, Regionalisms
Economics, Business, Labour, Social and Welfare issues, Education

GUIDELINES FOR CONFERENCE PAPERS
The Constitution briefly describes the general aims of the Association as the promotion of “the study of the cultural, social, economic and political affairs of the Iberian area together with its languages”. Following on from this broad description we could further define our areas of activity in terms of geographical limits and historical period:
1. Geographical limits: Spain and Portugal and their dependent territories. International relations involving either country are included.
Historical period: approximately the past 100 years, from the late nineteenth century to the present. This is not meant to exclude references to an earlier period, where appropriate.
Language: the Spanish and Portuguese languages, especially contemporary usage; the minority languages of the Iberian Peninsula, especially in their cultural, social and political context.

ACIS POSTGRADUATE BURSARIES
The Association for Contemporary Iberian Studies is offering six bursaries to cover half-fees (for registration and accommodation) for the forthcoming ACIS Conference at Dublin City University, 8– 10 September 2009. These bursaries are available to postgraduate students whose research is related to an area of interest to ACIS members (see attached Guidelines for Papers), and who are willing to offer a paper at the 2008 Conference. ACIS aims in this way to encourage postgraduate students to participate in the Association, which is concerned with the study of social, political and economic aspects of the Iberian area, as well as its languages and cultures.
Application should be made to Professor John Macklin (contact details below), using the form on the next page. The completed application form should be accompanied by a supporting reference from the candidate’s supervisor; the reference is needed to help the Conference Organiser and ACIS Executive Committee decide which applications will be of most interest and value, and of sufficient quality to be included in the Conference programme.
Successful applicants will be invited to the full conference at half-cost; travel expenses, however, are not included in the bursary. Successful applicants will also be invited to submit papers for publication in the International Journal of Iberian Studies (IJIS), on the understanding that publication is not guaranteed, as it is a refereed journal.
N.B. These bursaries are intended for postgraduate students who are not in full-time or fractional academic posts; students who are employed to undertake small amounts of part-time teaching (less than 0.5 FTE timetable) will be eligible.

A ideia de que as mulheres foram silenciadas pela história é consensualmente aceite. Decorrerá daqui que todo o estudo que dê maior visibilidade às mulheres deve ser saudado como contributo importante para contrariar este silenciamento histórico?
A pergunta ocorre-me a propósito de Casadas com o poder. As mulheres dos ditadores, de Antje Windgassen. Publicado originalmente na Alemanha em 2002 acaba de sair em tradução portuguesa, com a chancela de uma editora de prestígio entre nós. Parece ter por projecto retirar da sombra (relativa) as mulheres de Estaline, Mussolini, Franco, Mao, Ceausescu, Péron – esta excepcionalmente visível – Honecker, Tito e Milosevic. Na introdução afirma-se que elas teriam sido negligenciadas por biógrafos e historiadores, uma falha que esta série de biografias curtas pretende colmatar.
Ora, este desvelar do pretensamente oculto funciona, na verdade, como uma segunda ocultação, uma vez que em quase todos os casos Windgassen se limita a confirmar o cliché da mulher que incita um homem poderoso à corrupção e mesmo à crueldade. Muitas destas mulheres são figuradas à imagem de Lady Macbeth, figurações que o título do capítulo sobre Elena Ceaususcu – “A Condessa Drácula dos Cárpatos” – explicita, mas que estão também presentes nas outras figuras. Todas gostam de luxo, todas se casaram por ambição. Assim, é Doña Carmen que, na sombra, incita Franco a tomar o poder e a ser implacável com os seus opositores, Margot Honecker que comete os crimes mais horrendos da ex-RDA – nomeadamente o programa de adopção compulsiva dos filhos dos opositores do regime e a concepção dos campos de “reeducação” de jovens – e Jiang Qing a autêntica força motriz da Revolução Cultural Chinesa, com o seu cortejo de vítimas.
Que fique claro que não estou a defender que se deve proceder a um processo de branqueamento dos crimes pelos quais estas mulheres foram responsáveis ou cúmplices, ou a apresentá-las como simples marionetas nas mãos dos poderosos maridos. O que é mau neste livro, o que faz dele má história, é a simplificação atroz de todas as personagens: ignora-se a complexidade dos contextos históricos, e a história – feita de teias de relações e de variáveis – é reduzida à repetição dos clichés que podemos encontrar, por exemplo, nas telenovelas, num mundo a preto e branco e numa trama cujo desenlace – lido a posteriori – está escrito no início.
Assim, quando Elena Ceaucescu adere ao partido comunista em 1939, é porque via que estava ali a sua hipótese de ascensão ao poder – quando, de facto, em 1939 os comunistas se encontravam na clandestinidade, arriscavam a prisão, a tortura e a morte e não tinham condições de imaginar uma conquista do poder, pelo menos a curto prazo. De forma análoga, na Xangai de 1938 – enquanto os comunistas chineses eram perseguidos e massacrados – Jiang Qing “Já previa que os comunistas seriam a futura força na liderança” (109), o que a leva a decidir dar início à sua ascensão ao poder através da ligação amorosa com homens (cada vez mais) poderosos do partido.
Para além da sede de poder, a outra característica constante nestas mulheres – à excepção de Carmen Franco e de Rachele Mussolini – é a sua sexualidade sem freio e corruptora. Esta estreita ligação entre as mulheres poderosas e uma sexualidade excessiva faz parte da convenção dominante das representações do feminino na cultura Ocidental (Cleópatra é o exemplo que me ocorre). Como imaginar o poder no feminino que não seja um poder baseado no corpo como instrumento? E como desatar essa instrumentalização do corpo do pecado da luxúria, o pecado feminino por excelência? Daí também que, por contiguidade, todas elas gostem de luxo, roupas caras, sapatos extravagantes (relembrando a famosa colecção de sapatos de Imelda Marcos, essa metonímia para este excesso feminino de qualquer mulher casada com o poder). A divisão das mulheres em duas categorias fundadoras – a saber, a “esposa e mãe” e a “meretriz” – (pré)figura as mulheres de que aqui se fala. As mulheres de Mussolini, Rachele Mussolini e Clara Petacci, ilustram, na vida de um único homem, esta dicotomia do feminino. Mas as mães estão em menor número – as meretrizes são mais interessantes e ilustram melhor o lugar-comum do “poder como afrodisíaco”.
Se no caso da mulher de Péron, “Mãe Mítica ou Meretriz ávida de Poder?”, este livro se limita a reproduzir a mitografia em torno de Eva, com Jiang Qing esta figuração é mais indecorosa. O (historicamente) conhecido apetite sexual de Mao – com os concomitantes abusos e o desrespeito pelos direitos das mulheres – é atribuído, tout court, à mulher que o terá iniciado nesses prazeres, uma vez que terá sido nos braços dela que “Mao esqueceu rapidamente os conceitos morais que ainda pouco antes apregoava” (112).
Estamos perante um livro de divulgação histórica, ao qual, naturalmente, não se pode pedir um estudo aprofundado ou uma questionação bem fundada das narrativas dominantes. Mesmo a escassa bibliografia citada – duas a quatro fontes para cada caso, muitas delas simples entrevistas dadas pelas personagens a jornais – é aceitável no contexto deste género. O que é profundamente nocivo é a reprodução acrítica das representações do feminino que continuam a contribuir para uma demonização das mulheres – particularmente quando se encontram no poder, ou dele próximas.

V PhD Meeting in Social and Organizational Psychology
The V PhD Meeting in Social and Organizational Psychology (SOP) will take place in Lisbon on May
28th and 29th, 2009. The meeting is a joint initiative of the Department of Social and Organizational
Psychology and the CIS Research Center of the Lisbon University Institute (ISCTE).
The first four meetings were held in Portuguese. The fifth meeting will introduce English as the primary
language, aiming to attract PhD candidates from all over the world to present and discuss research at the
junior level with their peers. The main goal of the present meeting is to operate as a scientific hub for
networking in SOP at the earliest stage of the scientific career, i.e. the junior, pre-doctoral level. A few senior
researchers will participate in the meeting as discussants. Moreover, the meeting will result in the publication
of a Book of Proceedings.
The meeting also intends to promote the internationalization of research work that has been conducted at
the junior level in Portugal. In addition, it aims to foster dialogue and scientific exchange between junior
researchers from portuguese, as well as international universities, promoting the integration and development
of national and international research networks in SOP starting at the junior level.

Date and Place of the Meeting
The Meeting will take place on May 28th and 29th, 2009, at the Lisbon University Institute (ISCTE) in
Lisbon, Portugal.
Call for Oral Presentations
All junior researchers (pre-doctoral level, i.e. before earning the PhD) are invited to submit original research
work, conducted in the last three years in the areas of Social and Organizational Psychology, broadly
defined.
The submission involves two abstracts to be sent by email to 5encontro.pso@iscte.pt.
A short abstract should be submitted by February 22nd, 2009.
An extended abstract should be submitted by April 29th, 2009.
The submission of the two abstracts (short and extended) is mandatory.
Short Abstract (maximum 1500 characters with spaces) This abstract will be published in the Book of
Abstracts of the meeting. The short abstract should include: Title, Name and Academic Affiliation of the
author(s) (underlining the name of the author giving the oral presentation, a Junior Researcher), Scientific
Domain, Three Keywords, Address and Email Address for further contact (see Appendix A).
Extended abstract (between 15 000 and 20 000 characters with spaces) This abstract will be used by the
discussants of each Thematic Session to prepare and organize the discussion. The extended abstract should
include: Title, Name and Academic Affiliation of the author(s) (underlining the name of the author giving the
oral presentation, a Junior Researcher), Scientific Domain, Three Keywords, Address and Email Address for
further contact (see Appendix B).
V PhD Meeting in Social and Organizational Psychology
Book of Proceedings
All participants accepted to participate in the V PhD Meeting in Social and Organizational Psychology are
invited to submit chapters to the Book of Proceedings. The submitted chapters will be selected on a
competitive basis through peer-review. The scientific committee, along with Junior Researchers, will be
serving as peer-reviewers. Participants wishing to publish in the Book of Proceedings should email the
chapter to 5encontro.pso@iscte.pt by June 30th, 2009.
Chapter – Optional – (between 45 000 and 50 000 characters with spaces, tables and references) Chapter
should follow the APA style.
Scientific Program
The organizing committee will send notifications of acceptance by March 13th, 2009. The scientific program
will be available online by April 30th, 2009. The scientific program will include Thematic Sessions only and
will be coordinated by senior researchers. All presentations will be oral.

The meeting is open to researchers and students of all levels. Participants should email the registration form
to 5encontro.pso@iscte.pt by April 6th, 2009 (see Appendix C).
